A couple of years ago I was part of a group that worked on the Kansas Core Competencies for Public Library Directors and Technology Core Competencies. Rather than pulling the competency ideas out of the air, one of the things the group did was to find as many pre-existing sets of competencies as we could. It’s the kind of thing that it makes complete sense not to reinvent. Remembering that experience, I'm so glad to see that WebJunction has put together a Competency Index for the Library Field. Nice work, Betha, and everyone else at WJ!

Thanks Brenda! I hope that others will use the Competency Index as a set of building blocks to meet their needs. Defining competencies is an ongoing process---competencies never sleep.
