Technology Outreach--On the Road!

On October 8th I presented at the Association of Bookmobile and Outreach Services (ABOS) annual conference in Everett, Washington. The presentation was about Techlab, the King County Library System’s mobile computer lab. Techlab is King County Library System’s fully equipped mobile classroom with eight laptop computer workstations, a full productivity software suite, broadband internet access, and a screen projector for group instruction!

Volunteer-Powered Computer Classes

I coordinate the NetMaster program for the King County Library System. NetMasters are volunteer computer instructors who lead classes in the community libraries based on existing curriculum. Potential volunteers apply via our website and I contact them for orientation and training—this process is manageable, but does keep me pretty busy. Here is how it goes:

The King County Library System in Washington State is one of the busiest in the country. Our service area encompasses 2,131 miles, including many rural and unincorporated areas.
