A fund raising success story: Adopt-a-Computer

If the first 5 weeks of 2009 are anything to go by we're going to be too busy to blink our eyes this year. I figured I can take some time off in 2010!

But I wanted to share a success story about our Adopt-a-Computer project. We have been selling our program around the community, and to date we have, as they say in the south, "Cash Money" to adopt three of our 8 computers already and the promise of 2 more adoptive groups and we haven't even hit all the service clubs in the area.

The first three adopted computers went to the Rotary, a local car dealership, and an individual family. When our Friends president spoke at the Rotary dinner, she was so impressive that the owner of the car dealership decided he wanted to participate all on his own.

The "cash money" donations come to $1095 in the bank and the promise of $2190 over the next 2 years. What's exciting about this is that it's new money and it involves a continuing relationship between the library and the donors. We'll have plenty of photo opportunities when we put the names on the computers and semi-annual reports will keep us in touch and will give a real sense of ownership to people who might otherwise think the library is "The Government's Job".

So - a happy ending story during these tight times. I hope other people give this project a try. It's the easiest sell I've ever done!
